Dear Principal,

I am excited to announce that, after a long 18 months waiting for theatres to reopen, London Children’s Ballet will be able to take to the stage once more in June 2022. We will be casting a Company of 50 young dancers to dance in our new ballet based on the classic Canadian novel, Anne of Green Gables. Audition registration is now open, and we would love your help to spread the word among your pupils. There is no fee for children selected for the Company, which we hope will make it accessible to promising young dancers regardless of their financial situation.

As you may know, LCB gives talented young dancers the unique experience of training and performing as part of an all-child ballet company in a way that fits with their regular ballet classes and schooling, working towards an original two-act narrative ballet. The company comes together on Sunday afternoons over a 4-month period, leading up to 8 shows at the Peacock Theatre in the West End 26-29 May 2022.

This ballet will feature excellent soloist and corps de ballet roles for boys aged 9-16 and girls aged 9-14. I have enclosed some flyers to pin up on noticeboards or leave out for parents to look at. The audition registration deadline is Thursday 30 September, 4pm. Thank you so much for your help.

Whilst it is admittedly competitive to get into LCB, we welcome children of all standards to audition. There are always a good handful of children in the company who have less experience but stand out for their wonderful performance quality and potential. We work hard to make auditions an encouraging and enjoyable day for all, no matter the outcome. Also, we cast without regard for a child’s size or shape – children are chosen on talent and performance quality, rather than on physique. For those chosen for the company of 50 dancers, the experience is free – we don’t want finances to stand in the way for anyone. A further 48children will be selected to form one of our smaller touring companies, which take a reduced version of the ballet into care homes and special needs schools.

Anne of Green Gables will be choreographed by Andrew McNicol, who has worked with The Royal Ballet, Royal Ballet School, Royal Ballet of Flanders and Joffrey Ballet, among many other companies.

As always, we hope that the performance experience LCB offers in some way supports the excellent training that you offer year in and year out. We are so grateful, as ever, for your continued support.

We have also just opened booking for our summer school directed by former Royal Ballet Principal Fiona Chadwick. LCB’s Performance Summer School is an opportunity for dancers aged 9 - 14 to take part in a varied selection of classes and workshops based on all aspects of performance. If the dates do not clash with a course you are running, please share with your students.

We would be very grateful if you could forward the bottom of this email to parents or perhaps add it to your newsletter. A digital flyer, along with a provisional rehearsal schedule are linked in the section below. We have also included at the bottom of this email social media blurb that you can copy and paste to the different channels you use. We have attached a photo you can use on social media (please refrain from using until Tuesday when we announce publicly) and newsletters if you wish as well as the link to the aforementioned flyer below.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,
Ruth and the LCB Team
